UNICEF- What It Is and What It Does?
- UNICEF is the organization for development of the United Nations Organization that lobbies for the good of children and women. Wherever children are suffering, UNICEF, as a politically and religiously independent organization, will do its best to help them.
- UNICEF is the UN's only organization where local people can actively participate: by way of doing voluntary work in workshops, helping to spread information and being active in public relations as well as selling UNICEF greeting cards.
- UNICEF is focusing on the improvement of living conditions for children in developing countries. They lack the requirements necessary to a healthy life: medical care and education, clean water, sanitary facilities and a sufficient and balanced diet.
- UNICEF was founded in 1946 as an emergency organization for children in Europe. German children also benefited from UNICEF. In order to help children survive in emergency situations and assert their rights, UNICEF currently maintains representations in 161 countries. UNICEF provides emergency help for those suffering from wars or catastrophes and establishes structures and institutions to stabilize the situation and further a positive, long-term development.
- UNICEF sees itself as an advocate for children of the world and is committed to the assertion of their right in all countries. UNICEF's efforts rest on the United Nation's Convention on the Rights of the Child, which binds countries to save children's lives, further their development, curb child abuse and have them participate in important decisions.
